Police Leadership Programme – Stage 5

Course Info

We are once again offering our highly successful support package for Police Leadership Programme – Stage 5 candidates. We are delighted to have seen so many of the clients we supported during cohorts 1 and 2 achieve promotion to chief officer roles.

Following the reintroduction of a gateway assessment mechanism for cohort 3, we have revised our support package to return our focus to this element of the programme. Our proposed approach to supporting this next cohort has been developed through a mix of our experience in this area and consultation with current and prospective candidates.

Objectives:

The primary objectives of our coaching support are to:

  • Enhance understanding of the leadership competencies required at the executive level.
  • Develop strategic thinking, ethical decision-making, and inclusive leadership.
  • Equip candidates with the skills to handle the complexities of the gateway development centre.
  • Provide personalized development plans to maximize individual strengths and address areas for improvement.

Methodology:

Our coaching methodology is structured around the following components:

1.) Individual Coaching Sessions

  • Format – Six two-hour sessions conducted remotely via MS Teams/Zoom.
  • Content – Action planning for personal and professional development, application of development tools such as 360-degree feedback.
  • Follow up – Supplemented by additional telephone/Teams coaching sessions as needed.
  • Goal – Tailored support to enhance individual performance and readiness for executive roles.

2.) 360-Degree Assessment

  • Instrument – Comprehensive 360-degree feedback report based on the 2024 Competency and Values Framework (CVF).
  • Usage – Invaluable for creating a Personal Development Plan that links workplace performance with potential strengths and weaknesses at the executive level.

3.) Workshops and Mock Exercises

  • Format – Informal group-based activity undertaken over a two-day workshop event.
  • Content – Discussion and briefing regarding the exercises, including hints and tips and practice scenarios, followed by individual feedback from coaches and fellow candidates.
  • Goal – Provide realistic practice, build confidence, and enhance performance through peer observation and feedback.

4.) Management Exercise Guidance

  • Format – Completion of an exercise, with targeted advice and support reflective of senior development centre experiences.
  • Content – Verbal and written feedback on performance.
  • Goal – Develop a strategic approach and improve management exercise skills.

5.) Information analysis and speed reading

  • Format – Teams/Zoom based sessions with a chartered psychologist, with practice time built in between.
  • Content – Use of recognised speed reading and analysis techniques.
  • Goal – Enhanced ability to analysis large quantities of data quickly and efficiently.
